What to expect from a Majestic Maij tarot reading

What is Tarot/What can Tarot be

A tarot reading can offer a powerful workshop space to explore, experiment with, and navigate all of the different experiences and sensations that we feel within and beyond ourselves.

Tarot decks/cards, which are the tangible tools/mediums used to facilitate tarot readings, “typically hold a system of 76 cards and are split up between major life themes, energies, and archetypal imagery (Major Arcana) and cards that represent the everyday matters of life (Minor Arcana)...Tarot cards are also typically broken down into suits which depict the elements of Fire (Wands), Earth (Coins / Pentacles), Water (Cups), and Air (Swords). These suits help us to understand where a pattern is set, what actions are happening / are likely to happen, and ways that we can address our situations. There are many different kinds of tarot decks and artists have put their own spin, interpretation, and energy into re-vitalizing traditional understandings of the tarot. This means that there is a diversity of reading types and images that we can pull from!” (Jade T. Perry, What to Expect from Oracle & Tarot Readings).

Tarot, as a divination tool and practice, can open up portals that allow us to witness all of the different constellations and ecosystems that make up the fabric of our lives. In short- tarot is a powerfully adaptive tool and reflection partner that can help us navigate and understand all of this *gestures widely to all of existence.

What does a tarot reading with Maij look like:

A tarot reading with myself is an intentionally curated space for us to explore what tarot can facilitate/open up for you. Readings can facilitate/offer general guidance, answer a question that’s been on your heart, help you troubleshoot/navigate a situation, or even just explore what’s going on/gain some perspective on all of this *gestures widely to all of existence again.

Each session starts with a clarifying consultation, where we specify and hone in on where we want to lay our focus for the reading. Then we shift into a grounding activity or meditation to help us open the reading with care and intention. We will then explore/ consult/examine/dialogue with the cards, getting clear on what we want to get clear on and asking the questions that need to be asked. We will close the reading with an intentional closing method or meditation, in order to establish energetic boundaries with the reading space and begin the process of aftercare.

My personal ethics as a reader include:

  • “Minimizing harm and taking steps towards accountability and/or building access to healing when harm is done.”

  • “Honoring the capacity, agency, and process of myself and others”

How these ethics show up as boundaries in readings with me:

  • I will do readings that can expand, open, clarify, support, guide, deepen relationships to self, others, universe, and spirit.

  • I will do my best to only engage in readings that honor the capacity, agency, and process of myself and others.

  • I will not do readings that have the intention of controlling and/or enabling harm within relationships with self, others, universe, and spirit.

  • I will not do readings that feel inauthentic/disingenuous to my relationship to self, others, universe, and spirit.

  • I will not do readings that hold the intention of predicting the outcomes of health issues, future births, or deaths.

Additional Encouragements/Invitations:

A tarot reading may touch upon/bring up sensitive/activating topics, scenarios, experiences, sensations, and questions for you. You are encouraged to take care of yourself before, during, and after the reading, as well as reiterate your boundaries and consent throughout this process. Caring for yourself may look like:

  • Making sure you are nourished/practicing self-nourishment- This can look like drinking water, eating, meditating, reflecting, journaling, getting an adequate amount of rest, stretching, etc.

  • Gathering your favorite tools/resources to ground yourself during the process- I always like to bring my favorite selenite wand and other supportive crystals to help channel my magick- feel encouraged to bring all of your favorite things, supports, and resources to our session!

  • Ask for what you need- As a reader, I will do my best to intentionally and frequently check-in with you throughout the reading to ensure safety, consent, and adjust/adapt accordingly. That being said, you are always encouraged  to name and ask for what you need, as I might not always be aware of what your particular/specific needs are.
